Dr. Dale R. Woerner
Dr. Dale R. Woerner is an Associate Professor in the Department of Animal Sciences and the Center for Meat Safety and Quality at Colorado State University. Dr. Woerner’s research experience and expertise is in fresh meat quality, meat safety, fresh meat shelf-life, meat flavor chemistry, pre-harvest management for quality meat production, meat cookery, instrument assessment of meat products, and innovative carcass fabrication. Dr. Woerner serves on the American Meat Science Association’s Board of Directors and will serve as the 2018 Reciprocal Meat Conference Chairman. He also serves as a member of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association Beef Innovations Group. He has been recognized as a top 10 industry leader by Cattle Business Weekly, a Hall of Fame Young Alumni inductee at Texas Tech University, one of “40 under the age of 40” recognized by Vance Publishing for his contributions to food security, and, in 2015, received the American Meat Science Association’s Achievement Award.
Representing the Beef Category
Steve Black is the Director of Beef Purchasing for Colorado Boxed Beef. He began his career in 1977 with Swift and Company working as a Carcass Lugger in Cactus, Texas. In 1980 he went to work for Cargill in Plainview, Texas as a Carcass Selector and was promoted to a Carcass Sales Manager in Rockport, Missouri then to Beef Sales in Atlanta, Georgia before leaving Cargill in 1986. He was hired as the Beef Buyer with Atlanta Provision Company then became Vice President of Procurement. In 1990 he moved to Auburndale, Florida to work with Colorado Boxed Beef Co. as their Beef Buyer and left in 1995 to take his family back to Texas where he traded meat independently until late 1999. He then returned to Colorado Boxed Beef Co. where he is now the Director of Beef Purchasing. Steve currently lives on Possum Kingdom Lake in Texas with his wife, Quinn, of 38 years. He enjoys the lake life during his spare time along with riding motorcycles with his friends. Steve and Quinn have a daughter, Sabre, and son-in-law, Jeff, who are their pride and joy.

Todd Oostra is the Director of Purchasing for Colorado Boxed Beef Company. He started his career in the Food & Beverage industry in 1992 as the Sales/Purchasing manager for Coffee King/Island Oasis, a wholesale distributor of Coffee, Tea, All Natural Juice, bottled water, and more. In 1997, he took a position as the General Sales Manager for Kustom Pak/Co-Pak Foods – a large co-packer of poultry, beef and pork products, as well as fully cooked, ready to eat product lines like Armor Erickrich Lunch-maker, Healthy Choice, Sara Lee, and Omaha Steaks. In 2002, he moved to Des Moines, IA to work for Pine Ridge Farms, LLC as the General Sales Manager of fresh pork sales.
In 2008, Todd and his family moved to Winter Haven, FL as he took a new position as a pork buyer. As CBBC has continued to grow over his 9 years, Todd became the director of pork purchasing in 2012. In September 2016, he became the Director of Purchasing overseeing all product categories except for the Beef department.
Todd currently lives in Winter Haven, FL on lake Winterset with his wife Katie and their two children, Gavin and Piper. He enjoys coaching youth sports (football, basketball and softball), as well as enjoying life on the lake with his family!

Stewart Stevens is the Director of Poultry Purchasing for Colorado Boxed Beef. Stewart has been in the distribution / poultry industry since 2006 and joined the CBBC team in 2009 to start a new CBBC poultry program. He began working out of Atlanta, GA and moved to the corporate office in Auburndale, FL in 2011. Stewart is from Gainesville, GA and graduated from the University of Georgia in 2003.
Representing the Seafood Category
Jim Heston has been in the food industry for over 32 years, specializing in Seafood. Jim began his career with Colorado Boxed Beef in Auburndale, FL in 2001 working in the warehouse where he gained a deep knowledge of the category. He eventually moved to sales and then into the purchasing role where he resides today. Over the past 16 years, Jim has traveled the world, allowing him to strengthen his extensive knowledge of the seafood category. Jim currently lives in Sebring, FL with his wife Rachel and 3 kids, James (24), Morgan (22), and Austin (19).
